The first 2,500 litres are VAT free, which is like your annual allowance. The practicality of manufacturing from home means you would have to have a close look at your home insurance.
The stumbling block I found before even looking for a business plan was a distinct lack of liquid vegetable oil. You will find the places that actually use it are already contracted to a producer and the places you think use it are actually using solidified vegetable fats which are of no use. Solid fats are cheaper for people using frier’s and they don’t come under hazardous storage.
If you can find enough raw material to supply your own needs you will be doing well. Biodiesel isn’t the golden goose that environmentalists would have you believe.
Saying that good luck, just don’t expect the competition to help you, because they want all the raw material they can possibly get themselves.
beside a business plan, you will need safety, environmental, insurance, a tax dealers license, bonds, and an army of lawyers. Selling hazardous materials (flammables)
Then think about who will buy your product, where will you get it? If you make it, then you will need even more permits and have zoning where you can do this. You’ll need fire safety plans. You’ll need to have a laboratory to verify each gallon is in compliance with SAE/API standards. Are you ready to buy a new engine if your bio diesel isn’t certified as being in compliance?
Lastly, why would anyone want to buy from a house? Who’s going to pay $4/gallon for it when they can buy regular diesel for $3?
You can ask you start legislator or go to any University in your town they have business plans they can help you. You have to go to the University or college
Hi Brian, you in the UK? US? Elsewhere? The tax situation is different for each country you see.
Contrary to what others have posted as an answer, I know of several examples of businesses making a go of it. Golden Fuels in Oxford are one example, they seem to manage to make a living collecting waste oil, processing it into Boidiesel and selling it on, however it is never going to make them rich!
You would do well to find yourself a good book on making biodiesel (I like Run Your Diesel Vehicle On Biofuels - ) and making some biodiesel for yourself. Or find yourself a good course (try in the UK) and start there.
